Neck Pain Symptoms Explained

Have you ever noticed that it’s only after you end up with an injury or pain that you begin to appreciate the body part affected? This is very true for your neck!

Your neck allows you to look downwards toward your feet when you tie your shoelaces. It allows you to look upward and appreciate the beautiful sky. It’s your cervical vertebrae inside your neck that allows you to look to the right and to the left when you’re driving, and allows you to tilt your head to pose for camera shots at family reunions.

Neck pain interferes with every one of those normal everyday functions.

Neck pain can also cause headaches. The reason why this occurs is connected to the cervical vertebrae. Each cervical vertebrae contains a hole called a foramen where the cervical nerve emerges from the spinal cord. The vertebrae protect that nerve at the root level. Once the nerve is impinged or compressed, it starts to create a call out for help. The call may be in the form of a headache because the nerve supplies the anatomical structures that go to the head.

The call for help may be in the form of pain or hot / cold sensations or even electrical sensations. And it may also be pain that radiates down your arms, into your shoulders, in your upper back and neck, or even into different parts of your head.

It’s important not to ignore these neck pain symptoms because the longer the nerve is damaged, the more difficult it is to ‘revive’ it.

Neck pain is always a sign that you need to schedule an appointment with your   Oakleigh chiropractor Dr. Liveriadis. He’ll examine you thoroughly with orthopedic tests or with imaging techniques to determine the cause of your neck pain. Then you’ll both work together to create a plan of pain relief.
