Desk Workers & Back Pain: Why It Happens and How Chiropractic Can Help
Many people across Oakleigh and surrounding suburbs who work at desks begin experiencing back or neck discomfort after long hours of sitting. Over time, poor posture, limited movement, and sustained muscle tension can place significant strain on the spine. At North Road Chiropractic, where we have been caring for patients since 1987, we see desk-related spinal issues on a daily basis.
Prolonged sitting often leads to forward head posture, rounded shoulders, and increased pressure through the lower back. These changes force certain muscles to overwork while others weaken, contributing to stiffness, fatigue, and recurring pain.
Chiropractic adjustments help restore normal movement to restricted spinal joints, easing mechanical stress and improving posture. To fully understand each case, we use postural spinal X-rays to assess alignment and Computerized Electromyography (EMG) to measure muscle tension and nerve stress. EMG helps identify areas of muscle fatigue or overactivity that may not yet be painful but are contributing to ongoing strain.
Alongside chiropractic care, simple adjustments such as improving screen height, chair support, and taking regular movement breaks can significantly reduce spinal load.
Some people seek help only when discomfort arises, while others choose ongoing care to maintain better posture and spinal health. Our role is to guide and advise — you decide how far you wish to take your care.
